Instagram competitor analysis
TikTok and YouTube Shorts as well, in the same view. Name the accounts you compete with. Silma scans them daily, works out each account’s own median, and flags every post that beat it by 1.5× or more. Open one and get the recipe.
What you get
Most competitor tools stop at the view count. This gives you a baseline per account, and a reason per post.
01 / BASELINE PER ACCOUNT
Every account is judged against its own normal, not the whole internet. 50k views from an account that usually does 20k is a 2.5× win, and it ranks above a bigger rival having an ordinary day.
02 / OUTLIERS FLAGGED DAILY
A daily pass over every account you named flags anything at 1.5× that account’s median. For the strongest outliers Silma also drafts a “make it yours” version, so the idea lands already translated to your brand.
03 / THE PART TOOLS SKIP
Any competitor video can be pulled apart: hook type, structure, pacing, editing, text overlays, and why it worked. It is the same analysis Silma runs on your own posts, so the comparison is like for like.
04 / THE NICHE, NOT JUST YOU
When views drop, the first question is whether everyone’s did. With your rivals on one screen that stops being a guess, and starts being a line you can put in front of a client.
Who it is for
Video editors who need to know why a rival’s cut held attention. In-house social managers who are the entire social team. Agency and freelance managers with a client roster, who have to prove at renewal which posts actually worked and why. If you have not shipped anything yet, start somewhere else.
Competitor analysis runs on Starter and Pro. The method behind it is written up in How to analyze a competitor’s Instagram Reels, and pairs with Discover when you want ideas from outside your named rivals.

Public Instagram, TikTok and YouTube accounts. You add a handle; Silma pulls its recent public posts. Baselines and outliers are worked out per platform, per account, so a TikTok account is never compared with an Instagram one.
For each account Silma takes the median views of the last 30 posts. That is the baseline. A post at 1.5 times its own account’s median or more is flagged as an outlier. Median rather than average, so one freak hit does not move the bar for everything else.
Starter covers 5 accounts, Pro covers 15. Lite is Pre-Check-first and does not include competitor accounts. Accounts are re-scanned every day, and you can trigger a scan on demand.
Watching the accounts costs nothing. A full breakdown of one competitor video, frame by frame through hook, structure, pacing and why it worked, costs 12 credits and is cached, so the same video is never charged twice. Plans start at $9 a month.
A dashboard reports numbers: views, growth, posting cadence. Silma opens the post and reads the frames and the words, then names the hook, the structure and the reason it beat the baseline. Shortimize is the dashboard done well, priced for teams at $99 a month and up (shortimize.com/pricing, read August 2026). Silma goes deep on 5 or 15 accounts instead. If you want a wider feed across your whole niche rather than named rivals, that is Discover.
